P VAN NIEKERK - GALAXY

At Studio JDB, we believe in the power of time, time to listen, time to sketch, time to evolve ideas with care and precision.

Earlier this year, we began a quiet collaboration with a private client on a highly conceptual mobile structure. While the nature of the project remains confidential, the journey of shaping it has been a reminder of how deeply rewarding slow design can be.

The brief began with a spark: a compact footprint, a sense of adventure, and a desire to connect the indoors with the outdoors in a profoundly considered way. Our work involved a mixture of design mentorship and collaboration, guiding the client through early ideation, iterative sketching, and visual studies to help prepare a concept that could later be handed over to specialist manufacturers.

This was not a rushed project. Instead, it unfolded over mornings and meetings, each session peeling back a layer, refining proportions, enhancing clarity. A vision started to take form, grounded in thoughtful functionality and quiet delight.

As the project moves into its next phase with fabrication specialists, our role draws to a close. But the process, the commitment to steady, intentional design, stays with us.
